Basic, clean in a good location
The location is excellent. Teatro Real, shopping and the Palacio are steps away, and the Gran Duque is on a quiet side street.
I found the Gran Duque claustrophobic. Very small rooms, yes, but also the hallways are narrow and long, most rooms have an interior view. There is a very small lounge by reception, but it does not look clean, and is not inviting. Also, you must leave your key at the desk as you leave, and pick it up again when you come back in. So, there is not a feeling of freedom of privacy. Other hostals have a card key or key that gets you in the building and in your room, with having to interact at all hours with desk staff. And last, and maybe most important for some, the walls are paper thin. You will hear the most personal of sounds through the walls, in addition to light sniffling and coughing.
Location is perfect. Located just right to the Opera metro station.
Various rooms. First I was given room which was pretty shabby with more than tiny bathroom. Besides it was noisy as it was right to the main entrance. Only after asking they moved me to another room which to my pleasure looked like the pictures from their website.
Very friendly and helpful staff and the hotel is in a very good location only a few minutes from the centre of the city.
thin walls - could hear some people snor next door, also it pretty annoying waiting for the receptionis to open the entrance door. almost no english spoken. had some problems with wi-fi at the beginning
dark corridors inside the hotel
The location is excellent. I liked the kettle for making hot water in my room, but had no cup until the second day. Interesting location for a hotel to be located on the third floor, but had a lift. Had to be buzzed into the building so felt safe in the middle of the city.
no cup for making tea until the 2nd day, definitely needed my ear plugs, thin walls. could use a little better cleaning. safe in the room didn't work.
The hotel was clean, quiet and had a great location. It is 50metres from the Metro station and about 250metres from the King's palace and many other good tourist attractions.
None really. The room was a bit small but if you are only using it as a place to shower and rest until the next day then it was good..
Staff really helpful, rooms extremely clean and located in great area in Madrid.
It would have been better if you could access the hotel from the street with a key/key card instead of having to ring the bell and wait.
new and functonal hotel, well situated in the old part of the city, walking distance from turist attractions, good places to eat and shooping.
bad english speaking personel, but happy to help.
Very centrally located, but difficult to get to by car. Detailed instructions about how to0 get there would be very useful.
Staff were not very friendly. Room smelled initially rather strongly of effluent, but this was rectified once we pointed it out to the staff.
The quietness and security.
The front door was extremely heavy to open after the security buzz went off.
The hotel is in the centre of the city and everything is walking distance
Very small room and a bit noisy at times
location. Very central but also very quiet. Room was pretty basic and small but considering the price I have rated it good as it was all I needed. I wasn't expecting to stay in and I didn't.
The Hostal is open 24 hours and there was always a member of staff on hand to assist. We also had a room clean after only 1 night which was unexpected.
Very noisy with other gusests and the toilet in our room (301) didnt flush properly.
